A Guide to the Buying Process

Ex hire boats for sale from Reflections Hire Boat Sales

We do everything we can to make buying a boat through Reflections as simple and easy as possible – and we will guide you step by step throughout the process:

Initial Research

We update this website on a daily basis, so whenever a boat becomes available for sale, or goes Under Offer, we will post the new information.

If you see a boat that may interest you, please do not hesitate to call us on 0800 652 0 117 to discuss any additional information that you require or any clarification of the website details.  If your telephone call is after hours, please leave a message on the voicemail, with your name and telephone number, and we will ALWAYS call you back.

We take great care in preparing the details of the boats, using recent photographs, and trying to get all the information as accurate as possible.  All boats will have a layout drawing, but we are afraid that these are not always accurately to scale.

Visiting Our Boatyard

All the boats that we have for sale are moored here on site in Potter Heigham, Norfolk.

If you do not live locally we advise that you telephone or email us to plan a visit before you set out.  We will always be happy to fit in with your schedule whenever possible and meet you here, show you over the boat, or boats, that interest you and discuss any questions that you have about boat ownership.  All the boats are kept in commission, so a demonstration run can be arranged when your serious interest in a boat is established.

Making Your Decision to Buy

When you visit here you will not be dealing with a high-pressure salesman – all our Hire Boat Sales are handled by Partners in the business who, as well as considerable industry experiences, have enjoyed many, many years of private boat ownership and Norfolk Broads holidays themselves since childhood.  We will try to ensure that you do not make a purchase which we consider is unsuitable for your needs.

When you have decided which boat is for you we will take you on a trip down the River Thurne so that you can see how the boat handles when underway.

Before shaking hands on your new boat we will politely have to establish with you how you intend to fund the purchase.

We will then request that you leave us a deposit of between 5% and 10%, depending on the value of the boat, before we take it off the market.

The deposit can be paid by debit or credit card, or by cheque.

Some purchasers wish to proceed subject to survey and, if this is the case we will endorse the Brokerage Sale paperwork accordingly.  There will be NO LIFTING CHARGES for the survey.

Your deposit will be returned in full to you if a fully qualified surveyor provides you with a written report stating a fault on the boat that cannot be easily rectified (as all the boats have been carefully maintained by qualified marine engineers and boat builders at Herbert Woods boatyard this has never happened before and we are always very pleased for you to get the ‘peace of mind’ from an independent survey).

Final Preparation

We will always get Herbert Woods to take the boat out of the water and put it through the workshop before you take delivery.

This ensures that everything gets checked and will be in full working order on handover.  The hull and superstructure are also cleaned and the name and Herbert Woods decals removed – so that she looks like a private boat.

When the boat goes into the workshop we will agree a date with you when the final payment is to be made and when you would like the boat handed over to you.  We ask that the final payment be cleared into our bank prior to handover, please.

When you come to collect your new boat we will give you a final receipt of payment, Bill of Sale, Boat Safety Scheme Certificate and Broads Authority Registration Certificate.

One of the Herbert Woods marine engineers will then spend some time with showing you how everything works and where everything is installed.  Within reason, he will spend as much time as you require to familiarise you with the boat – but don’t worry, if you have any questions later, or can’t remember something we are always only at the end of the telephone to help.

At this point the transfer of ownership is complete and you become the proud owner of a new boat.

After Sales Service

You can buy with confidence from Reflections Hire Boat Sales because we are not like a normal brokerage, selling private boats; we are selling Herbert Woods’ boats that have been in the same ownership for a number of years, the details of which are well known at the boatyard.

If you have any queries we can get you quick answers and, in the unlikely event of a problem occurring in the first couple of months after handover, Herbert Woods will normally help out free of charge.

If you want extra work done to your boat, you can make use of the services of the boatyard which include, mechanical and electrical engineering, gas safe work, boatbuilding, painting, upholstery, canopies and covers.

In the event that you want to move your new boat to other waterways after purchase we can arrange the services of a crane at the boatyard where there is excellent access for low-loader transport.

In fact there will be very little, and hopefully nothing, that we cannot help you with!

Happy Boating!
